I create ceramic sculptures and functional objects that resemble obscure mechanical devices from our industrial past.  I draw inspiration from the forms and surfaces of antique medical devices, farm machinery and domestic appliances to create works that reflect a spirit of inventiveness, ingenuity and whimsy.  The work is a product of my desire to be engaged in a creative process of posing questions and solving problems.  The mechanical forms and antiqued surfaces that I use are meant to be familiar to engage viewers in a creative process of their own as they attempt to discern the true function of the objects amidst varying levels of real and imagined functionality.  At the same time, the forms and surfaces remain slightly unfamiliar to emphasize the true nature of the processes and materials being utilized in the creation of each object.
